Just a year after reopening following an £18m refurbishment, the Dreamland amusement park in Margate, Kent, on the coast to the south of London, has called in administrators.

The park’s operator, Sands Heritage, had struggled to turn the park around after its restoration.

In January, its creditors gave the operator five years to repay £3m in debts but there has been an insufficient number of visitors to the park to meet costs.

The park will remain open with free entry but the amusements will now be on a pay-as-you-go basis.
