Belgium is experimenting with a new type of AWP machine.

Belgium

Around 2,500 machines are now in operation across the country, which play an AWP game on a video screen but pay out a ticket that can be redeemed for food and beverage.

Belgium does not permit AWPs as they appear in surrounding countries, with low stakes and cash prizes. It does permit other types of gaming machines, however, in its pubs, although a version is allowed in arcades. What is allowed can include the old-fashioned pinball-type games and live-action games involving dice.

The new game is currently being "tolerated" by the authorities pending the provision of an enabling law. The machines are being built by some of the major names in Belgium, including Eurautomat, GAA and Splin.

Said one operator: “The games are proving popular in bars. The player can play an AWP game on a digital screen and have his wins printed off on a ticket which can then be presented at the bar in return for its equivalent in beer or hot dogs.”
