The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia will have an “entertainment authority” under radical new changes planned for the conservative country.

Liberalising some of the laws, which may include lifting the current ban on cinemas, is seen as a progressive step and is being proposed by King Salman’s younger son, Prince Mohammed.

Many hope that it will mean that young Saudis will be able to visit the cinema in their own country for the first time.

But it is currently unclear what the introduction of such an authority will mean for the amusement industry, which is very strong in KSA through family entertainment centres in shopping malls.
