Local councils in the UK have once again urged the government to reduce the stake on the controversial fixed-odds betting machines.
Newham Council is leading the bid and claims the machines have "sucked the life blood out of local economies."
This is the second time that regional councils have called on the government to act against the machines. This time, Newham claims that a quarter of the all the councils in the UK are backing them. However, the government said it would continue to monitor effectiveness of controls.
The Association of British Bookmakers said: "It is difficult to understand the justification for the time and money councils are expending on this resubmission or why they might expect a different outcome."
The latest submission comes after talks with the Local Government Association, which believes the government should reconsider its decision.
