Tabcorp the major Australian machine operator, has released a trading update for the first quarter of the 2016 financial year to September 30, 2015, which showed that revenue was up just 1.1 per cent year on year, to AU$543.5m.

Turnover was $3.1bn, up 3.2 per cent on a period which included the 2014 FIFA World Cup. The report reveals that the company operates 9,400 gaming machines.

Tabcorp demerged its casino business in 2011 and has set out on a new course in diverse and multi-faceted gaming, covering sports betting, bookmaking, slot machine and single-site operating.

In an address to the company’s AGM, managing director and CEO David Attenborough said that the 2015 financial year net profit after tax was $334.5m, reflecting a strong operational performance.

He said that the company was building its market outside of its native Victoria and into the neighbouring New South Wales, purchasing eight NSW venues with 700 machines under contract to add to the 8,700 it has in Victoria.
