InterGame editor Simon Liddle is aiming to complete the Yorkshire Three Peaks Challenge to raise money for Cancer Research UK.

Cancer Research

Like thousands of others with cancer, Simon continues to benefit from the organisation's pioneering work.

Liddle and a team of school friends are taking to the hills of Yorkshire on September 26 to scale the summits of Pen-y-ghent, Whernside and Ingleborough in 12 hours.

He said: "It's fair to say that our group has varying degrees of fitness but we're all determined to complete the challenge and raise as much as we can for such a great cause. I'm lucky that I have such a great group of mates who will literally carry me up the peaks if I need them to!"

For the past few months Simon has been receiving treatment for bowel cancer at St James's Hospital in Leeds, one of the country's leading oncology facilities. He said: "The treatment and support I receive from the specialist team at St James' is incredible. It is humbling to think that the generosity of so many people is helping CR UK and the NHS deliver pioneering  research and treatment across the country for thousands of people like me. That's why we want to do our bit to help raise funds to help others who find themselves in a similar situation."

Liddle is also keen to raise awareness of the importance of early diagnosis and urged anyone with concerns to visit their GP. "You never think it will happen to you but, of course, it can. Four weeks after my wife and I welcomed our son home from the hospital I was back there receiving the news that I had cancer. It was such a terrible shock. That's why the work of Cancer Research UK is so vital.

"Although I'm receiving ongoing treatment, unfortunately the cancer I have is considered incurable. Yet there are always new treatments being developed and trialed and I strongly believe that through the dedicated work of CR UK we will one day beat cancer - all cancer."
