Britain had 1,522 adult gaming centres (AGCs) as at March 31, 2015, compared with 2,103 at the same stage of 2011, reports the Gambling Commission in its annual report.

The country also had 316 family entertainment centres, compared with 293 in 2011. The figures released show a fall in the number of Category C (AWP) machines in AGCs in that period from 30,989 to 27,129, out of a total of 50,530 across all types of machine categories. There were also 26,515 gaming machines in FECs, against 29,489 in 2011. The statistics do not cover the Category C machines located in pubs because the Commission does not license pubs and therefore does not collect the data. However, the Commission reported that in the year to September 2014 the very low stakes and prizes machines (Category D) mostly found in seaside family arcades, had fallen sharply in the year from 53,313 to 42,832. Machines sold into the industry in the year totalled 23,792, which was up on the numbers sold in 2011 when the final figure was 22,364.
