The strength of the Australian dollar made sales of amusement machines more difficult in 2014.

For much of the year, the US dollar was worth 87 Australian cents, which had the effect of adding around 10 per cent to machine prices across the board.

This year continued weakening of the US currency has seen it fall to 77 Australian cents, which has made life even more difficult for distributors.

Generally, however, Australian operators report that there is gradual growth in the FEC sector, although it was becoming noticeable that games alone are not enough, and more locations are adding laser tag, dodgem cars or other attractions to widen the appeal.
