Gaming in Italy generated revenues of €84.4bn (£59.7bn) in 2014, according to data from the Agenzia delle Dogane e dei Monopoli.

The Italian Treasury collected €7.7bn from gaming last year, down from $8.1bn in 2013.

AWPs continue to drive the market and last year collected €25.3bn, of which €3.2bn went to the Treasury. Video lottery terminals, meanwhile, collected €21.4bn.

Devices without cash prizes, the so-called Comma 7, collected €231m, bingo accounted for €1.6bn and horse betting €682m. Sports-based games reported €4.2bn, numerical games with a totalisator €1.2bn, while lotteries collected €9.4bn.

The Lotto reached €6.6bn, while remote skill games collected €734m. The collection from card games organised in a different way from tournaments and games of chance with fixed odds, was €11.5bn.

A new entry into the betting field were virtual sports and betting exchanges, collecting €1.1bn and €205m, respectively.

The state authorities blocked more than 5,200 online gambling sites in 2014, while there were 114 violations of the gaming law concerning underage gambling, resulting in 98 penalties amounting to €907,999.
