A new Family Amusements Games Act has been approved by the Florida state legislature, which, if signed into law, will set new prize limits for machines.

Under the bill, three classifications of games have been introduced that define machines that offer replays but no prizes (Type A), redemption games (Type B) and prize vendors, such as cranes (Type C).

The prize limit per play for redemption games is set at $5.25, up from the current level of $0.75, while players are able to accumulate tickets or points to redeem against a single item of merchandise that has a wholesale cost of up to 100 times the maximum value ($525). Cranes can be operated with a $52.50 wholesale prize limit.

A J Kress, president of the Amusement Machine Owners Association of Florida, told RePlay that the bill is a “step in the right direction.”

The bill has now been passed to Governor Rick Scott to be signed.
