We are sad to learn that Gary Munday of Montag Leisure passed away recently.

Gary Munday

His funeral was held yesterday, Thursday, April 9, at  at Charing Crematorium, Ashford.

He was sadly diagnosed with a gastro-intestinal stromal tumour (a type of soft tissue sarcoma found in the stomach and intestines commonly known as GIST) in September 2014. Despite having major surgery to remove the tumour in October 2014, he sadly lost his brave fight only five months later.

Gary’s family Jamie, Charlie and Ro made the following statement: “Given the rarity of the cancer and the fact that in some cases GISTs can respond well to certain drugs we wanted to raise some money to help others deal with this dreadful disease. We know Gary had many friends and associates and we want to ask for their help and support to raise some money instead of sending flowers to his funeral. We will be embarking on further fundraising activities later in the year to meet our target, so please keep an eye on this Just Giving page.”

UDC’s Michael Green remembers that Gary worked for his father Stan’s business from childhood. “Stan built up a big route in Kent in the 60s and 70s; the company was called Selecta Music, mainly jukeboxes, but he got into fruit machines in quite a big way later on. Gary worked in the company from when he was young boy and he played a key role. After his father died he sold the company and operated some AGCs in Kent.”

Our sympathies to the family.
