The Middle East’s first Legoland is to be built in Dubai as part of Meraas Holdings’ £1.7bn Parks and Resorts tourism complex, which will also boast Bollywood and Hollywood-themed parks.

The first phase of the project, which is targeted for completion in 2016, is to be in Dubai’s Jebel Ali district and will also include shopping and dining areas.

As the emirate recovers from the financial downturn, there are more large-scale projects planned including a $1.6bn island development featuring what will be the world's biggest Ferris wheel, and the Pearl of Dubai, which is set to be the world's largest underwater theme park.

The Legoland in Dubai will be the world’s seventh and will be aimed at children aged between two and 12 years old.
