InterGame is saddened to learn that Gerry Robinson, the founder member of the Amusement and Leisure Equipment Suppliers trade body and the organiser of an array of industry trade shows, passed away on August 31 at the age of 75.

Gerry Robinson

He had been receiving long-term medical treatment for cancer and spent his final weeks in a hospice.

Robinson’s Trade Show International created a number of trade shows across several industries, including the International Toy Fair. In the amusement and gaming industry, he was either the founder of, or a significant contributor to, the main Amusement and Leisure Trade Fair in the Czech Republic, Coin-op and Amusements in Poland, LeisureIndia, the Theme Parks and Fun Centre Show in Dubai, the Greek Casino Equipment Show, RAAPA in Moscow, the Euro Amusement show in Vienna, Austria, and Surexpo in Poland.

In addition to his work with ALES, he was also the RAAPA international representative, part of the administrative office of the Amusement Industry Council of Europe and chairman of the International Council of IALEI, the FEC association. He was also the secretary of the Middle East Leisure and Attractions Council.

In May, he was the first recipient of InterGame’s Certificate of Appreciation, celebrating his outstanding contribution to the industry.

Wolf Vierich of the Vitala Group said he was “devastated” at the news. “I knew Gerry for over 30 years - actually, he just had left the police force after nine years of honourable service - and many of you had known him or at least heard of him. I was one of his first keynote speakers in India, the US, Dubai and many other countries. There was no major trade show that Gerry was not present at, always cheerful, friendly and hospitable.

“He was a fine man, not famous, just another man who could easily melt into the crowd. Beside his cheerfulness, he was a truly honourable man. His word was always his bond. Never, during 30 years, could I find a reason for him having defaulted or been unreliable.”

Gerry's daughters, Wendy and Jessica, attended the DEAL show in Dubai earlier this year on behalf of their father, whose ill health meant he was unable to travel.

"We were welcomed and looked after by all," said Wendy. "It was interesting to have an insight into Dad's working environment and we are all incredibly proud of him. Dad spoke highly of his colleagues and enjoyed working towards the development of the trade shows."

Gerry's funeral is taking place at 12:15pm at Worcester Crematorium on September 19 – details below:
