The arcade sector in the UK continues to see a decline in gross gambling yield, the latest figures from the Gambling Commission show.

The British gambling industry - or at least the portion of it regulated by the Commission - generated gross gambling yield of approximately £6.69bn between October 2012 and September 2013. During this period, total GGY increased £250m compared with the period between April 2012 and March 2013.

The none-remote betting sector represented the largest market with a 48 per cent share of GGY. The betting, casino, remote and lotteries sectors each demonstrated growth, but both the arcade and bingo sectors reported a decline in GGY.

Arcade GGY totalled £351.96m between October 2012 and September 2013, compared with £353.35m between April 2012 and March 2013. This figure stood at £379.01m in the previous reported period.

As at March 31, 2014, there were 508 adult gaming centre licences and 179 family entertainment centre licences held by 554 operators. The total number of AGC and FEC locations stood at 1,485 and 266, respectively. Combined, the two sectors employed just under 10,000 people.

Between October 2012 and September 2013, the UK’s AGCs housed and average 47,089 Category B3, B4, C and D machines, while its FECs held an average of 28,574 Category C and D machines.
