The Mall of Qatar, which announced plans to include a major family entertainment centre within its walls, has revealed it is working with Angry Birds creator Rovio Entertainment on the project.

Set to open towards the end of 2015, the mall is to include 400 shops, four anchor stores, a five-star hotel and more than 80 restaurants and cafes. In addition to the FEC, it will also boast the largest cinema complex in Qatar and an entertainment facility named Q-Live.

The FEC will feature an Angry Birds Activity Park for families with young children, a “futuristic” Juniverse family edutainment experience and a teen and adult-orientated experience called Virtuocity.

Designed to create a “digital theme park” within the mall, the project is being spearheaded by Tala bin Mohammed Trading, which is partnering with Rovio and ADabisc Future Qatar to deliver all three components.

“Mall of Qatar is delighted to house what will undoubtedly be one of the most thrilling indoor entertainment centres in the region,” said Mall of Qatar deputy managing director Shem Krey. “Centred on three very unique concepts, each attraction will appeal to a different section of visitors – from children, to teenagers to adults. We anticipate our unique digital theme park will see a record number of visitors when it opens its doors in 2015 and we are thrilled to be able to roll out this exciting new attraction in the Qatari market.”

Talal bin Mohammed bin Khalifa Al Attiyah, CEO of Talal Bin Mohammed Trading, which will act as the operating franchisee of the FEC, said his company aims to introduce a “new and complete vision of entertainment” in the whole region, beginning with Qatar.
