Rank Group is to undertake a programme of investment and job creation at its bingo venues, which operate under the Mecca brand.
For the 19 weeks to May 11, the group’s total revenues, which included that generated by its Grosvenor Casinos arm, increased 19 per cent. At its Mecca bingo clubs, however, total revenues were down three per cent.
On March 19, Chancellor George Osborne announced a reduction in the rate of bingo duty from 20 per cent to 10 per cent. This reduction in bingo duty will apply from July 1 for the group.
As part of its planned investment, Rank is carrying out detailed research, site reviews, planning and licensing to assist with its plans.
