Discussions on legalising casinos in Brazil will have to wait until next year as local media reported a scheduled vote on Wednesday was delayed due to arguments over taxes.
Senators have added new provisions to the bill that include a required local partnership with a 30 per cent gaming tax.
The Constitutionality and Justice Committee have now decided to delay a decision on Bill 186 as they review the impact of gambling at the state level. The committee may reportedly ban slots outside of casino properties, as well.
There needs to be a majority vote to get the committee’s approval, though 12 of the 27 judges have said they will not approve the bill in its current form.
