The distinguished casino in Hohensyburg, Dortmund, for decades one of the biggest in Germany, has reinvented itself. The casino belongs to the WestSpiel Group, the largest casino operator in Germany, which registered a turnover of €109m in 2011 - approximately 25 per cent of the entire German casino turnover. Westspiel operates seven casinos and two slot halls in Germany.

The operator has invested more than €8m in its flagship. Franz Hirthammer, managing director at Hohensyburg, and his ambitious team aim at nothing less than leadership in modern casino entertainment. The new concept is based on four pillars: open architecture with an enormous mixed gaming area, enhancing the status of classical games, a new trendy weekend club and top gastronomy.

The core of the new casino is “level 2”, a classic and electronic gaming area bathed in light, featuring the fashionable Horus Bar with 60 seats and an exceptional panoramic view on the Ruhr valley. A splendid grand opening ceremony took place on August 24.

“Spielbank Hohensyburg is Dortmund’s crown jewel“, says Franz Hirthammer. “In recent years, we have faced serious competition from internet gaming and commercial AWP gaming. Therefore, we decided on a powerful and highly innovative relaunch to strengthen our market position. This thrilling mixture of countless games, a variety of classy events and first-rate cuisine is absolutely unique”.
