A major turnaround in fortunes has been reported by Aristocrat Leisure, the principal Australian-based slots manufacturer, following disappointing results in the half-year reported only in July.

Adjusting its reporting period to a September full-year, the company has showed a strong last quarter and a profit of AU$85m (€70.4m), up 60 per cent from the previous full year. Its shares shot up seven per cent on the Australian Stock Market on Tuesday in response to the figures.

Aristocrat has switched to a September year-end because the December quarter is normally its strongest.

All of the geographic sectors reported strongly, with Japan and the rest of the world up 50.6 per cent to $123.5m. The Americas were up 23.4 per cent in revenue with a profit of $57.3m and Australasia showed a rise in revenue 12.5 per cent increasing profits by nine per cent of $29m.
