William Hill has cleared the first hurdle to becoming a licensed operator in the US state of Nevada.

The UK’s largest bookmaker has been recommended for licensing after the Nevada Gaming Control Board voted unanimously in favour at a hearing in Carson City, Nevada. The next and final phase of licensing is when William Hill and its executives appear in front of the Nevada Gaming Commission on June 21.

The bookmaker signed agreements to purchase American Wagering, Club Cal Neva and Brandywine Bookmaking in spring 2011. These businesses operate within casinos.

“We are pleased to have the Nevada Gaming Control Board’s recommendation for licensing,” said Ralph Topping, chief executive of William Hill. “They have been fair and detailed in their assessment of our application for licensing, and we are grateful for their recommendation. We now look forward to the hearing with the Gaming Commission in two weeks’ time.”
