New Jersey’s Casino Control Commission voted unanimously to grant a gaming licence to Revel Entertainment Group, the developer of the $2.4bn Revel casino hotel.

The property, which began construction in 2007, is expected to open next week.

In order to obtain a licence, Revel had to prove its good character, honesty, integrity, business ability, casino experience and financial stability.

Commission chair Linda Kassekert described the property as a “game changer.”

“With the attention to detail and understated elegance, it is easy to see why many believe Revel is setting a new standard against which future properties will be measured,” she said.

The casino at Revel is to feature 100 gaming tables, the very latest slots such as IGT’s Sex and the City and WMS’ The Wizard of OZ and a dedicated poker room.

The resort is set to open on April 2.
