What is being billed as the biggest integrated resort ever built anywhere in the world – the Sands Cotai Central - is to open in Macau in April.

Cotai Cotai

Located at the centre of the Cotai Strip and directly across from Sands China’s Venetian and Plaza Casino properties, the 13.7 million sq.ft integrated resort is to feature two casinos amounting to 300,000sq.ft of gaming space, around 6,000 hotel rooms and a host of entertainment amenities and attractions when completed.

The first phase of the property’s launch is to kick-off on April 11 and will see more than 600 rooms and suites under the Conrad hotel brand and more than 1,200 rooms from Holiday Inn unveiled. It will also officially open meeting, convention and retail space.

This, the company said, marks another milestone in the company’s efforts to help Macau “reach its full potential”, with more than $8bn invested to date.

“There were few believers in my vision for the Cotai Strip when the site was basically under water,” said Sands China chairman Sheldon Adelson. “With the completion of Sands Cotai Central, that same spot will be home to thousands of hotel rooms, millions of square feet of retail, meeting and convention space, dozens of restaurants and so many other attractions.

“The opening of Sands Cotai Central is a game changer for the future of Macau as a leisure, entertainment and business location. On behalf of our entire company, we are proudly looking forward to introducing visitors from around the world to the largest integrated resort development ever constructed.”

Sheldon Adelson recently suggested that his company would seek to develop integrated resorts elsewhere in Asia, such as Vietnam, as well as in Europe where it is understood to be in talks with Spain’s regional governments over a possible casino resort project.
