Singapore’s government is reviewing the rules that govern the operation of casinos in the city state.

Minister in the Prime Minister’s Office and Second Minister for Home Affairs S Iswaran revealed that after two years of operation, it was time to conduct a review of the country’s gaming legislation and regulations, local media reports.

It is thought the review will investigate problem gambling and the impact Marina Bay Sands and Resorts World Sentosa have had on the public.

Iswaran hinted that Singapore was seeking a balance between limiting the perceived negative elements of gambling and encouraging both Genting and Las Vegas Sands to continue offering world-class services.

Following the rapid growth of Singapore’s casino market, which is expected to become second only to Macau, there have been rumours that the government would consider allowing a third integrated gaming and entertainment resort.

This new review may well be the first step in that process.
