Bermuda’s government is keen to include casino gaming within its future strategy for tourism growth.

In a report entitled Establishing the Foundation for the National Tourism Plan, the country’s Tourism Board identified gaming as a strong addition to its tourism mix.

“We believe that there are opportunities for cultural and sports tourism,” the report said. “Marketing these new products must be a priority for the next two to three years.

“At the same time, we need to look at building a convention centre and introducing gaming as an attractive feature that will contribute to sustaining interest in the destination and filling our hotels as we build new facilities.”

To achieve this, the report stated that barriers to the entry of new players, on-island investors and foreign developers must be removed.

“We recommend a comprehensive review of all legislation and policies that inhibit new developments and services on the island. Bermuda must see new property developments and infrastructure improvements that support new opportunities for employment and business development.”
