The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas, which many believe may be the last casino resort to open on the Las Vegas Strip for some time, opened its doors to the public on Wednesday.

Chief executive officer John Unwin presided over a ribbon-cutting ceremony inside the new resort’s Boulevard casino and was joined by other executives from The Cosmopolitan and the design, architecture and construction team.

"The Cosmopolitan is about creating a resort experience set apart form anything that exists right now in Las Vegas," he said. "When you combine spacious suites, high design from talent like David Rockwell, a carefully curated award-winning dining collection, unparalleled service and gaming, we know guests will enjoy an experience that harkens back to an era when guests felt connected, inspired and engaged by their resort."

Located next to MGM’s City Center, The Cosmopolitan features two 50-storey towers boasting 2,995 rooms, a 100,000sq.ft casino, restaurants and night clubs across just 8.7 acres of land.

The resort’s first guests were treated to an outdoor show by Las Vegas native Brandon Flowers, front man of The Killers.
