The obligation for gaming operators in Estonia to connect all machines to electronic accounting systems could be postponed for another 12 months.

Under the country’s current legislation, operators were obliged to add such systems to their gaming machines and connect them to the electronic surveillance systems of the Tax and Customs Board by January 1, 2011.
However, a draft amendment pending in Estonia’s parliament proposes this deadline be postponed until January 2012.

Erki Uustalu, a former member of the Estonian Gambling Licensing Committee and one of the drafters of the country’s latest gambling regulations, told InterGaming that it is likely that the amendment will be passed.

"The reason for this is the adoption of the euro as a currency in Estonia as of January 1, 2011 and the already existing significant workload related to the adjustment of gaming machines and software to the new currency," he said. "Both the gaming operators and the Tax and Customs Board seem to agree that such a postponement is reasonable in such circumstances."
