Betting and bingo company Gala Coral has made the UK's largest ever loss on a private equity deal.

Shareholders will receive just £10m despite putting in £1.2bn of equity. The three main owners, Permira, Candover and Cinven, are expected to divide the small pay-off equally with other shareholders.

The biggest victim is Permira, which loist its entire £370m investment in Gala, which has been a victim of the UK’s smoking ban and changes in betting regulations.
