After stabbing Aristocrat Europe executive Olga Pleguezuelos to death, her husband Mark Campbell brought his own brother to tears after telling him about the killing, the Old Bailey heard at the end of last week.

Campbell admits manslaughter but denies murdering Miss Pleguezuelos (35) in the bedroom of their Harrow-on-the-Hill flat at around 1.10am on October 19.

The 54-year-old stabbed his wife several times in the head and face after discovering a text message on her phone from another man.

Miss Pleguezuelos was planning a move to Las Vegas to start a new life after being promoted at work and prosecutors claim Campbell knew she planned to leave him.

He allegedly pressed a pillow to her face as she slept, before stabbing her as she tried to escape and finally slashing his own wrists and throat as he lay by her side hours later.

PC Jennifer Fane today told jurors that he said he had called his brother after cutting himself at the flat. She said: “He said that his brother started crying and told him to phone the police. He said he would call the police but he couldn’t remember if it was 999.”

The court heard earlier in the week how Campbell did call 999 and told the operator: “On the side of the bed I have a little knife. She was struggling and I pushed it and that was it. I cannot remember all the things, she just died in my arms and I tried to kill myself.”

Police found photos of the couple in a bin in the flat alongside ripped up pieces of paper containing Campbell’s ramblings.
