Pablo Gelman, ex-director of the floating casino in Buenos Aires, Argentina, was found shot dead yesterday.

According to police he was murdered at 11pm, having been shot metres away from the American Embassy in the neighbourhood of Palermo. It is believed that the attack happened as he and a friend and fellow businessman identified by the press only by his surname, Mr Vissio, were returning from dinner in the neighbourhood and were about to get into a Volkswagen Passat.

As they did so a man approached them and pulled out a gun and demanded they hand over cash. Gelman handed over 800 pesos ($200) and Vissio handed over 1,000 pesos. But the robber dropped the money. He then allegedly pointed the gun at Gelman and demanded that he pick up the cash and hand it to him.

Then, either by accident or because he felt that Gelman meant to resist, the thief shot Gelman in the arm. The bullet went through his arm and entered his chest. The thief took the money and fled while Gelman was taken to the nearby Hospital Fernández, where he died. of his injuries.

Police are now looking at security footage and are also interviewing the caretaker of a nearby building who witnessed the attack.
