Nineteen employees from Crown Resorts’ China operations have pleaded guilty to offences related to the promotion of gambling.

All 19 staff members have been detained since October and were charged earlier this month.

Casino gambling and promoting gambling is banned in China. Crown Resorts said in a statement to the Australian Securities Exchange that 17 current and two former employees were convicted under article 303 and 25 of Chinese criminal law, which relate to deriving profit from gambling as a main income and organising gambling parties.

This follows a recent crackdown on casinos that contravene Chinese laws by seeking to lure citizens overseas to gamble.
