Vietnamese developer FLC Group wants to develop a $2bn casino in the country’s Van Don Special Economic Zone with approval from the Quang Ninh government already in hand.

The company, listed in Vietnam and co-founded by billionaire Trinh Van Quyet, is the latest looking to develop in Vietnam as the country is starting to loosen laws allowing locals to gamble.

The project would include a five-star hotel, convention centre and golf course. A pilot programme allowing locals to gamble at yet-to-be disclosed regional casinos will start this month. The programme will also allow betting on horse and dog races.

Las Vegas Sands is also interested in Vietnam, as Chow Tai Fook and VinaCapital Investment are planning a $4bn casino resort in Quang Nam.
