Gross gaming revenue for the casinos of Macau for the month of February was MOP23bn (US$2.88bn), a year-on-year growth of 17.8 per cent, according to the figures from the Gaming Inspection and Coordination Bureau.
The results were higher than the five to 11 per cent growth analysts has forecast for the month.
In a note, broker Bernstein said that strong VIP performance in the month was the main reason for the unexpectedly high results.
“The last week of the month was helped by several junket marketing events, including Sun City's anniversary party, which brought in significant increase in VIP players and agents,” added the brokerage.
