The total visitor arrivals into Macau reached a record 30.95 million in 2016, a 0.8 per cent increase on 2015, according to the Macau Government Tourism Office.

Macau visitors near 31m in 2016

The statistics were reported by director Maria Helena de Senna Fernandes at the MGTO annual press conference.

According to Fernandes, while Macau’s economy remained in a period of adjustment in 2016, the preliminary data shows that international and total visitor arrivals in Macau both saw an increase.

Mainland China, Hong Kong and Taiwan remained the top three visitor markets to Macau.

With respect to international markets, Korea still ranked the first, contributing more than 660,000 visitors to Macau last year, a rise of nearly 20 per cent.
