The first casino in the Sochi gaming zone is expected to open its doors in December, the city’s administration representative Yulia Malorodnova has said.
“The soft launch of the first casino is scheduled for December 24, while a grand launch is expected on January 5,” Malorodnova said at Sochi Gaming Week.
Malorodnova said the Sochi gambling zone will be sited in local resorts Gorky Goro and Roza Khutor, and able to accommodate 1,700 visitors at a time.
“Operators of gambling zones plan to receive up to 600,000 visitors to Sochi a year,” she added.
The city’s gambling business is expected to bring in more than US$2m in taxes annually.
