The Fairleigh Dickinson University PublicMind survey said seven out of 10 voters in the state would oppose a November 8 referendum that would permit two casinos to open outside of Atlantic City.

Fewer than 24 per cent said they supported the proposal, down from the 35 per cent that responded favourably in a June poll.

The poll of 848 registered New Jersey voters was conducted earlier this month.
