Voters in the US state of Arkansas won’t get to decide on allowing casinos after all.

Arkansas

The state supreme court has disqualified the referendum to allow casinos in Boone, Miller and Washington counties, saying it doesn’t inform voters that the amendment violates federal law, as gambling is illegal in Arkansas.

The referendum question needs be complete enough to convey the importance of the proposal, but because of that omitted information the casino question is not sufficient, the court ruled.

Arkansas racetracks had sued to block the referendum, alleging it misled voters and that referendum supporters had failed to follow state law for reporting and registering paid canvassers.
