Casinos in the Indian state of Maharashtra, which includes Mumbai, could generate over $1billion in gaming revenue, the state’s tourism corporation estimates.

The state is being forced to consider casinos because of a court ruling on its 1976 law that permits casinos, though enabling legislation had never been enacted.

The tourism corporation says a 25 per cent gaming tax would generate $277m, which translates to $1.10bn in gaming revenue.
