The 12,923-hectare Aurora Special Economic Zone and Freeport Authority in the north-eastern Philippines has begun offering both land-based and online casino licences.

Luzon, Philippines

The zone, known as APECO, was given permission under a 2010 act of parliament to grant gaming licences to attract investment and boost economic growth.

APECO officials say they have so far signed two memorandums of understanding for projects on the Pacific coast of the island of Luzon. One is with an Australian company and the second with a Chinese group.

They are reportedly also in talks with investors from Hong Kong and Macau.
