Casino developer Churchill Downs has announced plans to build a hotel as part of a $25m expansion at Oxford Casino in the US state of Maine.

The hotel would include 100 guest rooms, expanded dining options, an expansion of the gaming floor and banquet-and-meeting space. It will be the second expansion Churchill Downs has initiated since buying the property in 2013.

“This is tremendous news for Oxford Casino, the surrounding communities, our employees and our patrons from across the region,” said Jack Sours, vice president and general manager of Oxford Casino. “We’re anxious to begin construction and provide our guests with this exciting new option for their visit to Oxford.”

The expansion will create 60 full-time jobs in addition to an estimated 1,000 construction jobs. Oxford Casino is the largest employer in the town of Oxford, providing jobs to more than 400.

Company officials say construction is slated to begin as early as June and be completed by summer 2017.
