The plans to open Brazil to casinos will not worry neighbouring Paraguay, according to a leading Paraguayan official.

According to Spanish website Azar, Paraguay’s far lower taxes will make it more attractive to investors. It quotes Javier Balbuena, president of the National Commission on Gaming, as saying that Paraguay’s lower taxes will give it the edge.

Balbuena called for an adjustment to the current law regulating gambling to expand the investment opportunities of his country.

Earlier this month Brazil moved closer to opening up its gambling market when a Senate committee approved a bill for multiple forms of gambling, which would include 35 casinos, online gambling, sports betting and video lotteries.
