The council of the Canadian city of Toronto has approved the proposed extension of the Woodbine racino into a full casino resort.
Development of the resort, which is likely to combine table games with hotel and resort amenities across a 700-acre site, is still subject to approval by the Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation.
If the scheme gets the green light, OLG will then seek a company to develop and manage the casino.
Plans include expanding the number of slots from the 2,700 currently available at the racino to 5,000 and adding 120 table games.
