All of the five firms that submitted a total of seven proposals to build a supercasino in Southampton, UK, have made it through to the final phase of the competition, reports the Southern Daily Echo.

The five companies - Grosvenor, Kymeira Casino, Genting Casinos UK, Global Gaming Ventures and Aspers - are each hoping to win the licence to operate the new casino, which is likely to form part of the planned £450m Royal Pier development in the city – although two of the seven bids are for other sites.

Committee chairman Matt Tucker said: “We looked at whether they met the criteria of our licensing objectives for the supercasino, and all of them satisfied the broad criteria.

“It’s now the responsibility of the committee and myself as chairman to determine which one ultimately gets the licence.”

Tucker added that the final decision is likely to be reached in June 2015.
