MGM is attempting to re-enter the Atlantic City casino industry after reviewing its decision to surrender its 50 per cent stake in the Borgata Hotel Casino.

Its appeal is being considered by New Jersey gaming regulators this week.

MGM decided to withdraw its stake in the Borgata amid scrutiny surrounding its alleged business in China. Investigations into these activities have been reopened and the findings will be used to determine MGM’s eligibility for re-entry to the market.

Three Atlantic City casinos have already closed this year, with the fourth set to close next week. Of the eight remaining, the Borgata was the most successful recording a net income of $8.8m.
