At least five provinces in South Korea are already planning casino developments in the wake of Caesars’ approval there.

South Korea

Government officials from Incheon, Busan, North Ieolla, South Jeolla and the Jeji province say there is already a casino in the works, or one is being planned.

In South Jeolla, a government official said land has been picked out for a casino and it is competitive enough to draw Chinese gamblers as it is near eastern China along the Yellow Sea.

Busan City’s tourism division is looking to turn a landfill site in Dongbusan into a resort area with a casino. Jeju province, which has eight casinos, is planning another four.

And in the Gyeonggi province, plans for a Universal Studios resort in Hwaseong may also include a casino, though that project has been on hold for two years because of the difficulty in finding a developer.

CZR’s joint venture, LOCZ Korea, was recently given the green light by the South Korean government to build a foreigners-only casino in Incheon at an $800m cost for phase one.
