The political party Partido Revolucionario Institucional is set to introduce a legal framework for regulating the Mexico’s 400 casinos.

PRI Senator Verónica Martínez Espinoza stated that the current legal framework dates back to 1947 and modern legislation was needed to better regulate the sector, which has come under much scrutiny in recent years.

She said there was a need to strengthen surveillance in areas such as security and verification in betting centres and to bring to an end the duplication of licences where in some cases up to 50 casinos operate under just one licence.
