The Chinese government is apparently extending its reach in stopping other countries from poaching Chinese players.

More than 94 people have been arrested as part of a ring that allegedly facilitated Chinese players to gamble $72bn in south-east Asian countries.

This follows the arrest of 11 Grand Korea Leisure marketing executives last year and the recent detention of 18 Crown Resorts employees on suspicion of promoting gambling in mainland China in violation of Chinese law. The Chinese government has since placed charges against three Crown executives.

The crackdown on foreign casino operators luring Chinese players had been hinted at by the mainland government, which indicated it was not cracking down on what it consider illegal play in Macau just to have other countries poach those players.
