Political pressure is building on Scott Walker (pictured), governor of the US state of Wisconsin, to accept or reject the proposed $800m Menominee Indian casino in Kenosha.

Governor Scott Walker

A recent Marquette University Law School survey found that 49 per cent of Wisconsinites support the project while 35 per cent oppose it, compared to a near even split when surveyed in January 2014.

Walker has until early in the New Year to decide, having won National Indian Gaming Commission approval to push the decision past November’s election, with Walker seeking a second term as governor.

However, Democrats want the Republican Walker to decide now, perhaps anticipating that whichever decision he makes will be unpopular with some.
