WITH 38 venues located from Edinburgh to Plymouth, Genting Casinos UK is one of the largest casino operators in Great Britain and will be opening the new Resorts World Birmingham development in the spring.

The project on the National Exhibition Centre (NEC) campus will feature a four-star boutique hotel, 18 restaurants and bars and 51 shops in addition to a large casino offering up to 32 poker tables.

There will also be a maximum of 150 slots from developers including Novomatic, Spielo and International Game Technology alongside 28 blackjack and roulette tables from TCS John Huxley, including some flip-tops.

InterGaming sat down with the man overseeing the build and, after being appointed to the post of complex operations director a year ago, the person set to be in charge after the planned April inauguration, Barry Clemo.

IGG: After winning the third large licence from the Gambling Commission under the provisions of the 2005 Gambling Act in 2010, why did the company decide to site the new development in Birmingham?

BC: Three million people visit the NEC campus for exhibitions and concerts each year so we are tapping into a significant existing marketplace. The NEC is also brilliantly served by transport, which means that access to Resorts World Birmingham will be easy for a large catchment of visitors.

Motorways, rail links and the close proximity to Birmingham Airport means we will be able to attract audiences from within the region, nationally and internationally.

In addition, our analysis shows that there will be widespread appeal for our offer of restaurants and bars, outlet shopping, gaming, conference and banqueting, cinema and hotel and spa. Being adjacent to the 16,000-seat LG Arena where most of the big concert tours visit means we can also bring an added dimension to the pre and post-show experiences.
