DETECTING fraud, for obvious reasons, has always been a very big deal for casinos. The industry always has to stay one step ahead of the fraudsters, who are in turn increasingly innovative in finding ways to cheat. Advances in technology, however, have helped casino operators to find the right kind of equipment to keep the risk of fraud as low as possible.

“One of the improvements is the move away from handwritten documentation to more utilisation of computers and security/surveillance software,” said Jim Pepin, director of gaming sales and marketing at specialist security firm Biometrica. “These include items such as daily logs, incident reports, procedure violation reports and a variety of security and surveillance management reports. Biometrica has long been recognised as the leader in games protection software and in recent years that software has been expanded to add the critical documentation features that casino security and surveillance use daily. There is a productivity advantage in having those two functions integrated into one user-friendly application.”

Pepin believes that casino security and surveillance staff can be much more productive and effective when having modern software to use in their jobs. “More and better information is available via today’s subscription networks and databases and databases can be searched more quickly and easily by name, game, race, gender and other criteria. Advanced face recognition has also proven to be quite effective.”

In addition to significant improvements in the design and performance of  Biometrica’s standard modules (the Surveillance Information Network, the Casino Information Database of casino undesirables, Private Database Enrollment and Face Recognition) the newest Visual Casino also offers an option to add the Incident Report module to streamline the documentation for security and surveillance. Most recently added is a new dispatch function for casino security to handle that activity very productively.

“The Biometrica Visual Casino software has continued to evolve over the years as it has grown from a basic software with a few games protection modules and just three client casinos to now having a very robust and more effective product that is now in use in more than 185 casino and gaming agencies,” said Pepin. “Today’s Biometrica software is available in several different configurations to meet the needs of multiple departments and casinos of all sizes.
