For my sins I’ve become editor of the parish magazine for my local community. It’s not a job I applied for but, because of my publishing background, it was “suggested” I might offer to help - in my spare time. I therefore made the mistake of asking, nonchalantly, what the role involved and, from that moment, there was no going back. I was in. I was the editor.

The magazine covers activities in the parish and everyone is encouraged to submit local news. My role is, of course, voluntary, but I am reliably advised by a friend that once you start these things you’ve a devil of a job to get rid of them. Time will tell.

I have now edited three issues which have sold pretty well -  but I really need some new ideas for beefing up the content. There’s only so much interest you can generate in births, deaths, marriages, thanks from all the local associations to their members etc. so I’m open to offers.

I did wonder about introducing a gaming page but somehow don’t think that would go down so well with the great and the good of suburbia.  If anyone has any inspiring thoughts please let me know - otherwise it’s back to the barbecues, coffee mornings and flower shows…
